How it all started…
I´ve lived very close to my dad, actually in the same building, for 23 years. Me and my family in one part and my dad in one part of the house. So I´m sure you understand how close to eachother we´ve been.
The day my dad told me that he had cancer I´ll never forget. For me, he was superman, the strongest man in the world, he knew everything, he could create anything and he was so very intelligent. He, of all people just could never be sick.
A couple of years later my mom got sick in cancer too. She had to go through the tough process of chemo and treatment. Both were suffering at the same time. As being by their side and not being able to do anything to make it go away makes you feel so helpless! My dad passed away last year, he lived with the cancer for 17 years, although they told him he only had 5 years left ( I now know that he really was superman).
Like most people I have friends and acquaintances that suffered or suffers in cancer.
Fatima, a dear friend of mine, had breastcancer, they removed her breast and she had to go through a year of tough treatment. She said to me;
- Malin, I´ll never be able to wear a light, flowy dress with thin shoulderstraps and open back again! I need a steady support for my breastprosthetic and there aren’t any dresses like that out there. Can´t you create one??
I thought to myself that I do know how to create dresses and maybe I could give it a try.
Fatima inspired me to start Malla Sweden Hope Project, to create a dress with those ingredients that she asked for: thin shoulderstraps, open back, steady support, a pocket for the prosthetic in a light and flowy luxurious silk, hand dyed in ombre from nude to pale pink.
I decided to create a limited edtition of the dresses! I received some fantastic volunteering help from the Nicolaischool Textile & design program and from outstanding Yvonne Hansson (Yacht tillskärare), Lilian Olsson, Lotte Udén, Stina Nordström, Anchi Karlsson, Elisabet Forslund, Åse Kjell, Dejan Borko och Helene Stålkrantz. who came to my studio and worked so hard together to finish these 32 handmade dresses! Even my lovely daughter Ella and my husband Kent helped.

Special thanks to my dear friend, Fatima Mughal Rosell, for making this possible.
